Daffodils are part of the narcissi family but some
people think of them as distinctly different plants. Paperwhites are also part of the
narcissi family. Here I am grouping them on the same page, all as "Narcissi".
For me, daffodils are a must in my garden. I can leave the bulbs in
the ground year after year, and they continue to bloom and create a splash of yellow, early
in the spring. Daffodils also make wonderful cut flowers. They are long-lasting and
look great! When planting daffodils, plant them in a group for the best effect.
Narcissi come in many different varieties and colors. Colors range from
white, cream, yellow, salmon and orange and combinations of colors. The bulbs are vary hardy
and easy to grow. They vary in height too. The dwarf narcissi are great for borders
and rock gardens.
Paperwhites are popular to grow inside as forced bulbs. Just put them
in a shallow dish, pointed end up, add rocks to stablize them and water. It's just that simple!
It's an easy project for children, too.
