Lilies make a dramatic accent to any garden. They are one of the oldest
cultivated flowers and have been around for thousands of years. Lily images have even
been found carved in pyramid walls in Egypt.
There are about 90 species
of lily bulbs and vary widely in flower size, color, height and form. Hybrid lilies have been
developed from wild lilies and are generally far superior to their parent plants. They come in
almost every color and flower usually after most spring perennials have bloomed. An
established clump of lilies will bloom over an extened period of time as the buds open.
The development of hybrids has produced lilies that are disease resistant and very robust.
