Irises are one of the most popular perennials and have beautiful,
exotic-looking flowers that range in color from white to dark, dramatic purples. The flowers
are delicate and some have beards while other varieties are beardless. They also range from
miniature in height to tall. Irises are relatively
easy to grow and do not need rich soil. However,
they do like well-drained soil. One iris stem can produce several flowers
and irises are beautiful as cut flowers too.
There are basically three classifications of irises. They are
"bearderd irises", "aril irises" and "beardless irises".
