Cut-Flower Lily Arrangements
Lilies are an excellent choice for cut flowers. However, you should
not use the same plant for cut flowers in successive years because this weakens the bulb.
You may cut every second or third year. Leave as much stem as possible on the plant and
also leave at least half the foliage. Avoid touching the blossom with your fingers.
Cut the lily just as the first bud begins to open
and then put into a container of warm water. Remove any leaves that are below the
water-line and be sure to change the water daily for best results.
Lilies are very versatile. They are great for wedding arrangements, funeral arrangements,
or for almost any other occasion. They are usually considered for formal arrangements but can
be combined with other flowers for a more casual effect.
One word of caution, The pollen from the lily can cause stains on clothing and table
linens. Be careful and wash your hands well after handling them.
